Yes, a bit of a bummer with spinn supply right now. I had ordered a 12x10 spinn from Brian before he posted about the shortage. Had to go for a Sil. Still, a beautiful tarp, and only a couple ounces heavier. Good coverage for my bridge.

This is my first post on this forum; great info all around. It's really helped me figure this whole hammocking thing out. Anyway, thought I'd share this email from Brain at OES in regards to SpinnUL (I inquired about a MaCat Standard in Spinn):

I received my new supply of SpinnUL fabric from my supplier a few weeks ago after two previous attempts at getting the fabric coating correct, and unfortunately it is not nearly waterproof to my standards to include in a tarp (less than 20% of the waterproof head that it used to have). This is an issue that has been arising during the past six months and due to the fact that the entire outdoor industry relies on a single manufacturer for this fabric, I don't have a present workaround for it and am afraid the industry will lose an option for a lighter weight fabric. As you may be aware, Thru-Hiker.com had stopped carrying it as of last October due to quality and waterproofness concerns, and I am afraid I will have to do the same unless something new comes up from the manufacturer.

I can however have a silnylon version shipped out to you in the very near future, or I may also have a cuben fiber model available in the near future if you are interested in hearing about some of the details.

If you have any other questions, comments or concerns, don't hesitate to email me at this address and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

The situation doesn't sound too good. I decided to order a Warbonnet Edge in Spinn instead.

Yeah, get it while you can from the sound of it.
Shame too, I'm a big fan of Spinn.

I am glad to know that some folks do not compromize on the quaility of the materials they use. Hope the QC issue gets resolved.

I, too, was sad to hear about the change in spintex waterproofness. I even bought a 20yd roll to test that I am just storing for the time being....not sure what I will do with it. That is also why, with so many great options available in silnylon, I am just going straight to CF3 material. It is kind of fun to work with and I KNOW that stuff is water proof. .
