SPAM Cook-off at the Mass Hangings

I would like to propose that we have a fun event at the Mass Hanging - a SPAM cook-off!

Rules are simple:

1. Must use SPAM as the main ingredient in any recipe.
2. Must make enough for several people to try/judge.

There will be a few categories to enter:

1. Trail snacks
2. Main Meal
3. Desserts
4. Freeze-dried or dehydrated SPAM-o-licious goodies
5. Wearable / display SPAM stuff.

There will be prizes for each category winner,
( I may even get trophies made-up) and maybe some other sophomoric stuff, too.

We MUST pay homage to our beloved Mystery Meat!

For those attending the Mass Hangins (Gathering) please indicate your interest in participation in the 1st Annual SPAM Cook-off, including the category(s), and the names (be creative!) of your dish(es) if you can make one up.

Otherwise, you only get to eat what I come up with.

===> Insane? INSANE???? Of COURSE we are all insane! But our abiding love of hanging in the trees, carrying all we need to live on our backs, connecting with nature in such an intimate, exposed and engaged way offsets the insanity.

Now, as to SPAM .... it is Food Of The Gods.
We dare not inquire as to its make-up, just that it is the perfect food, able to be used in the woods in myriad ways. Hot. Cold. Warm. I just wanted to showcase this delectable and versatile item. I have even used it to plug a hole in my boat once, and it worked!

FYI - did you all know that many state fairs have a prize category for SPAM recipes?

Well, now HF hangers (in Mass, at least) will too!

Boy, I wish this was another weekend so I could come!! I grew up in Greenfield and have relatives up there. The trail is such a great ride on a motorcycle and perfect for camping!!
