But, here's the thing, I'm all the way up in the freezing depths of Canada.

I'm wondering if anyone knows of a company that with either

Ship to Canada for cheap

or

Is in Canada that will ship to me.


I really want a stand but I can't seem to find one in any stores, so I figure I need to buy one online so I can hang out infront of the TV.

Option 2 is the more ideal really, but I'll take cheap shipping if I have to.

I'm fairly open as to what stand it is, as long as it's not huge, but at the same time, not tiny.

Anyone?

that is too funny. i'm assuming DIY is out of the question here? in your searches of hammock stand threads you've surely seen all of the wonderful DIY stands out there. no doubt you can still buy a 2x4 in canada! otherwise i can't really help...i'm shopping around at the moment too and DIY is looking like the way to go.

I'd like to DIY, the only issue with that is that I live in an apartment with no yard or deck, so I need something I can fit inside. Also I don't know how badly I want to be sawing and drilling in the house(For fear of missing and drilling a hole in the floor)


Diy does look the best. I think I'd be more for it if I owned any tools other than a screwdriver and a pair of needle nose pliers(that aren't even mine and I stole from my dad when I moved out years ago)

Oh and I know someone is going to say it, but I dunno about drilling holes in the walls or roof, the walls are concrete and when I read old posts where people are giving advice on hanging from the roof my eyes roll back into my head from lack of understanding. If someone could explain it in SUPER simple terms I might be able to do it. Otherwise... I'm lost.

I made a stand for my patio that's pretty simple, and I'm planning on making another that's pretty much identical for my bedroom soon. Here's the link to the thread. It's been a while since I posted an update. I've added guy lines off of the ends to stabilize it, and it's pretty much rock solid. I'm not sure what the best way would be to add guy lines indoors. . . some kind of anchor to the wall I would guess. It wouldn't have to take as much stress as if you were trying to actually mount hooks to hang the hammock directly from, but it may still have to take a good bit of stress. Oh, yeah. . . The great thing about the design that I came up with is that you only need to drill 4 holes. That's it. Everything is lashed together with rope, and I put some t-fittings on the end of the pipe, which twist on my hand. So you'd just need to find someone to let you borrow a drill for about 10 minutes and you'd be done with tools, other than maybe a knife or scissors to cut the rope. Hope this gives you some useful ideas. Good luck!

This thread describes my DIY stand. It is easy to disassemble for transporting in a car. I think the only tools I used was a drill and a saw. The drill was used as a screw driver, so really you could get by without it. The saw ... well, there was a lot of sawing on the plywood that I wouldn't want to do by hand. Maybe you could ask the lumber yard to cut it for you when you buy it. Just some thoughts.

I don't know if you read this thread already, but turtlelady's hammock stand is an option that you might consider. Not a lot of tools needed, just sticks and rope for lashing. Turtlelady uses bamboo because of its strength and light weight, but you could use wood poles, or maybe even electrical conduit if you didn't mind making it a semi-permanent feature that stays mainly in the apartment. Pros: no drilling (into walls (or the floor on accident )). Cons: somewhat bulky, and though it can be taken down and put up fairly easily, the fiddle factor might make this a tedious task for daily tear-down/ set-up (it doesn't get any easier than a hook in the wall (so long as it is safely anchored to it)). You also have to be comfortable with rope-work (lashings and etc). Still, might be just what the doctor ordered.

I've decided that it's the one I like the most, I'm just trying to figure out what diameter of doweling I'll need for it and then once I have the money I'll be building!
