    New Guy Checking in

    Hi all,

I have been meaning to introduce myself for a wile now.
I am looking to spend a lot more time outdoors, starting this year.
This includes camping (Hanging), riding my motorcycle more, and having some fun in my 4X4 Ford.

I'll be 40 in a week and sleeping on the ground is not something I want to do. My search for a good ground pad that would fit on the bike and provide a comfortable nights sleep lead me to ENO Hammock's at REI. Trying to find a good deal on a "Camping Hammock" lead me to Hennessy. I got the Explorer Deluxe with the "Hex Fly" because it was the middle of the line price point wise and reviews where great. My son said he would love to go camping this summer, so I added a Expedition to my order. We both got bottom entry because the zipper hammocks are on back order.

I brushed up on my knots and did a test hang in the back yard with him a couple of weeks ago. Our only insulation was short thermal mats and sleeping bags. We had rain in the afternoon and a low of 35* that night. I was fine, but I was wearing fleece head to toe. My 17yo son refused to ware anything other than jeans and a hoodie. I guess that's how they learn... Anyway, I had the best night sleep I have ever had outside. My kid jumped ship and went inside after burning up all the firewood.

It was only AFTER I ordered my hammocks that I found this site. Still, I'm happy with my Hennessy. I'm going to be at the Pine Grove Furnace Hang to see what everyone else is doing and what I'm doing wrong.

    Welcome to the trees!

Sounds like you are on a good start with some good gear.

I have more hammocks and tarps than a human should yet I find I keep going back to my HHExplUL. Also, the Hex Tarp provides great coverage. You should be happy with that set up for some time.

If you decide you'd like the zippers go with 2QZQ for a mod - it's well worth the small cost.

WELCOME to the trees! Read, read, read here. And get outdoors as much as possible, and practice, practice, practice! No right way, no wrong ways, just a lot of different ways to hang.
