    nx150/250 without poles

Anyone ever hung the nx150/250 without the spreader poles? I emailed clark, and they said there are small tabs you can use to hang the roof from the ridgeline in emergencies/ultralight

But I would like someones opinion about how it actually works in practice.

Do you just end up with a NA?

That's right an Nx150 with out the poles has the same lay as a N.A., and with a ridge line it will open up like one. Why would you want to unless you had no choice. Lost, broken, or forgotten. The poles don't weight that much.

I'll look thru posts to find out if someone else has tried assembling the poles from 5 shorter sections, instead of the three 17" sections.

Stock fiberglass rods and connectors are not expensive from kite-building shops.

The advantage would be sections just 10" instead of 17" long. The stock 17" is longer than the stuff-sack, and a drag. Small weight penalty from two more union connectors.

    250 poles

I just got back from a weekend camping trip. When I packed I forgot all about the poles. I also would be interested in shorter section poles so they would fit in the bag. Because they don't pack in the bag it made it easy for me to forget them or it would seem, lose them. I wound up cutting two small green branches to use in place. It actually worked fairly well.

    Clark answered the question:

1.Clark will / may begin to offer a 4-section spreader bar/rod as an option soon.

    2. Whatever you do as DYI, they caution that the rod be no stronger than what they furnish, so the bar fails before the fabric does

Per above, I'd find a supplier of kite-making materials. Fiberglass rod in this size, about 5mm, is inexpensive. (Hey, we have Clarks. No point in springing for hollow CF tubes to save weight. ) Total cost of connectors and rod might be less than $10US. Certainly less, if you re-use the parts you have, shortening them.
