I received my WBBB a couple weeks ago and my BBO last week. Today I had the opportunity to take them both out for a test hang... just to get the feel of the Blackbird and to see if I'll really like sleeping in a hammock.
I did my first ever hang in an old campground at Antelope Summit (Elev: 7400') on Hwy US 50 between Eureka and Ely Nevada. The reason I chose this place is that it's easily accessable by motorcycle:
As you can see, this isn't an off-road bike.
I selected two cedar trees that were 15' apart (estimated by pacing) and hung my Blackbird:
After a try inside the hammock, I decided to lower the foot end about 3" and add the Bear Burrito Oven just to see if there is indeed a difference:
As it turns out I immediately noticed an least a 10 - 15* difference in temps for the warmer. The day was approximately 60+*f with a breeze around 10 mph. The BBO definately made a big difference while inside.
When all was set the way I wanted it for my test, (no bottom insulation, no top insulation other than a USGI poncho liner) I slipped inside to rest for 10-15 minutes just to get the feel of the thing and to see if I could get comfortable. Three hours and 20 minutes later I woke up and decided that it was comfortable enough fo me.
I loaded up the bike and headed for home. I'm much more confident in my equipment and know that I'm in line for a minicel foam pad and top quilt or down bag. I have a tarp that didn't make this trip but next time...
Thanks for looking!
