One thing that hasn't changed much is the ripstop nylons we've been using. I can't help but wonder if that might be somewhere to look for further evolution?

Unless there is a number in front of the word "proof", I never believe it.

I'd like to see some kind of bio-luminescent bacteria incorporated into some line that could be used for tarp tieouts. Never trip over guylines again! I wouldn't even hazard a guess as to what will come over the next 5 years. Threads like the one linked here are a lot of fun to go back to and see what was going on 'back in the day'. Amazing how many things we sort of take for granted, that haven't been around all that long. Thank goodness for the creative minds that spend too much time around here.

Well I can't say anything about who discovered it here on the HF but I remember using it in the army back in 97ish...it was all the craze then as well.
We used it primarily for what it was intended, rigging, splicing, tow ropes, winch line, cargo netting, etc, etc.

Here I was hoping we would just have hammocks that hang using some sort of fancy magnet that repels the earths natural magnetic fields.
