yes, 2-person is an indication of the width/weight capacity- more fabric will weigh somewhat more than a 'single' but as mentioned above, wider lets you go more diagonal and reduce the difference between head/feet and the center of mass...and in a canoe, total pack weight is not as critical as when it is all hanging off your back and shoulders!KM

Welcome aboard mate. Glad to see more and more Ontario Hangers out there. A word of advice (and although I can't say this is universally true) most ppl do not have a good first night in their hammock. Its a pretty steep learning curve, so hang in there..... hahahahaha.

Hammock Forums is a great place to find all the info you'll need to get started but ask questions too.

I sorta jumped in head first and went through 5 hammocks before I finally made one that I am completely happy with. Every hammock has thier ups and downs and many of them look the same, the difference is in the details. Do your homework and maybe for this trip bring a back up bed sheet.

Good luck and hope to see you at some of the group hangs.

Thanks all, This morning I went out and got myself some ripstop nylon fabric and made myself a DIY gathered end hammock folowing the instructions on this site. I think I will bring it with me as well as the sheet, it's fairly light. I set it up today to test and funny thing is I seem to like the comfort of the bedsheet better. I will play around with both of them when I am in the park and see what setup I like best. The nylon is certainly the lighter option.

Welcome aboard. Thanks for linking to your blog. I spent a lovely half hour reading about your trips in Algonquin.
