Hi from Ontario! I will be taking my hammock for its first overnighter on a 4 day trip into Algonquin Provincial Park in 3 day's time.
My setup is currently a queen size bedsheet for the hammock, sheetbend knoted to 6mm Mammut ropes on each end with lark's head to pair of descender rings to act as ring buckles for tree straps which I made from MEC 1" climbing webbing with loops I sewed in by hand using 25 lbs test braided poly fishing line. I am clipping the tree straps with karabiners.
I tested my sewing job on a scrap loop of webbing first hand with a 2 1/2 ton car jack and I am very confident my sewn loops will hold well.
I am using my Eureka winter sleeping bag for top insulation, 1.5" Thermarest for bottom insulation, and 1/4" Evazote pad (half cut off) to keep my sholders off the hammock sides. I also have a thermal fleece sleeping bag liner that I will be zipping around the whole hammock like a cocoon with a hole in the foot-end to let the hammock line pass through.
For my tarp I have a MEC Silnylon Guides tarp which I seamsealed along its only seam, the ridgeline. (though after reading here I see that sealing the ridgeline is not necessary). I am using 5mm Mammut for a continous ridgeline under the tarp, and 3mm guylines.
The forcast is caling for lows of +1 degree Celsius for my 4 night trip so I think I will be warm.
I have tested out the entire setup a few times at home, but have not slept in it yet. I am certainly comfortable in it, I know the bedsheet is a little shorter than most hammocks are, but I still have lots off room at my head and feet.
