    Ripstop nylon

So I bought 14 yards of this nice grey color nylon. I wouldn't mind making a hommock out of it, as well as some other stuff. How much weight is it good for. In other words will I find my rear on the ground with ripped shreds fluttering overhead if I put my fat a** in the thing?

How much do you weigh and what strength (1.1 or 1.9oz) is the fabric?
Is that too much to ask? Girls with frikkin' lasers on their heads?

Walmart has sold a lot of gray 1.9 oz with no or light DWR treatment recently. If it's 1.9 oz, I've swing in it with both of my kids and never heard a creak....over 300 lbs. I don't know how much consistent wear it would take at 300 lbs, but you could always double it up if you're heavy. Otherwise, I'm pushing 200 right now and don't give it a second thought.

But I've also gotten 1.1 oz DWR from Walmart a few times. Do you know how to tell the difference?

Sorry for missing the critical info. I'm around 225. I have to weigh a piece of the fabric to be sure. Just a reality check, 1.9 or 1.1, thats oz per square foot?

There are 1296 square inches in a square yard, soooo....

Measure the area of your fabric in inches (length x width)
Divide by 1296...that's how many square yards you have
    Weigh your fabric
Divide the weight by your square yardage

It'll probably be within ~.2 of either 1.1 or 1.9. If you're 225, then 1.9 should work fine or a double layer of 1.1 will work.

With 1.1 oz fabric I only have problems if I fold the end to sew in the strap rather then wipping. When wipping I have had ~200 lbs in mine repeatedly with no problems.

slide rulers are cool but you can't add with them sorry.

WHAT! You can't add with a slide rule! You mean to tell me that after all these years none of my math was correct?

I want my money back from that cheesy public school that I went to!

OOPS, wrong forum for that topic.
