    Simple Bridge Hammock Stand

OK, I am quickly coming to the realization that we are a hard headed bunch. No offense intended to anyone, but we really seem to be making life hard on ourselves. We have many threads and many variations on hammock stands that can be used when no trees are about. For the most part, these are car camping options that require large quantities of poles, ropes, etc. to build trees in place.

Mind you, I have spent as much time and supplies as anyone in my quest for portable stands (and I have another one I am working on currently). So I am mainly pointing the finger at myself for my stubborness.

All this effort when I have a perfectly good self-supporting bridge hammock (at least similar) in the basement that is simpler and probably as light as anything I have come up with.

Does this strike anyone else as being a little bull-headed on our part.

I like the challenge of DIY, and the satisfaction of saying "I may'dis!"("I made this." for those who don't speak Q dialect)

So yes. We are all way too bull-headed for our own good, but, at least we have something to brag about.

Having used both a bridge hammock and your presented "similarity" I will continue to take the comfortable route and continue to build trees instead of accepting radically inferior substitutes for hammocks. But that's just me.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

Good point....but there is a difference in feel between a cot and a bridge hammock! Or any other hammock for that matter....

One can make a different sort of stand for a bridge hammock that
is "inspired" by a cot. Think of a frame that is perhaps 3' or 3.5' high,
3' across, and 7' long. Hang the bridge hammock from the corners of the
frame. You don't get the gentle swaying of a hammock but you don't get the
twist on its axis of the bridge hammock either.

I made up one of these a couple of years ago from 2" x 2" pine. A more collapsable (and car portable) one might be made from aluminum poles.

Grizz... your mean streak is showing. You just want to see me stuck in the hammock _for ever_ don't you... If it don't twist on the axis then I can't get out.

Why did I get an image of a hammock in a coffin while reading this? Wait a minute, talk about resting in peace.

This was posted somewhat in jest, but realistically, a cot is not too far from a hammock. Certainly YMMV, but I have found them very comfortable for weeks at a time.

The spreaders could even be shortened a bit on a wide cot and it seems like it would probably provide more of the hammock feel as well.

It is certainly a simple way to setup a stand and hang a hammock for car camping.
