    Continuous Ridge Line question

I have been looking at options for a CRL. I have been using Lash/Zing-it, but I was thinking that it might be possible to use something smaller and have it break away before the tarp gets shredded by the wind. These question came to mind when I looked in to Z-packs 1.25mm spectra cord for a CRL.
    • Is this line strong enough for the CRL or should it just be use as the guy lines?
    • Should the CRL be stronger than the tarp?

    Thanks in advance,

I used the z-line this past weekend at tarp lines and CRL, without issue. We had some pretty good winds. I never worried that the tarp or the lines would break. Plenty strong enough.

I would think the CRL should be fairly strong. The side guyouts should be the weaker ones I think. You're right that ideally any cordage used should fail before the tarp does but that's not always possible.

Thanks for the responses. I will have to play with this and see how it holds up. I don't want it to be so light that it fails after a few trips out but I want to protect my tarp too.

I use the Z line for my tarp tie outs. A few thoughts and observations based on use in a windy overnight hang:

The line is very strong and it held up to about 30-40mph gusts

I used rocks on top of my stakes and one line was rubbing against the rock and the line freyed. So there is a durability issue if the line is rubbing against anything. I managed to find the issue early and re-tied my guyline.

I'm clearly not an experienced hanger...but my son has used cheap, plain 'ole mason line for a continuous ridgeline for his HH stock tarp on both trips we've made this spring without any issues.

Even if it does wear after a couple of trips...it's cheap and easy to replace.

This is what I was afraid of. I was thinking it might wear around the tree too. I will have to keep an eye on this stuff over the next few weeks to see if it starts to show signs of wear. I might just have to stick with the Lash/Zing-it lines.
