Looking for Oregon family friendly hang spot

I know that there are several Oregon hangers watching the forum with the Oregon hang thread going so I want to grab some advice form you guys.

My wife, daughter and I are going to be in Portland in July and are bringing the hammocks. I'm looking for a short hike, scenic, not too strenuous (11 year old) fairly close to Portland. We aren't opposed to a nice campground either. We love being around streams/water too.

Any ideas guys? Thanks in advance!

I would head a few minutes down I-84 east and find one of the trailheads in the Columbia gorge. Doesn't get anymore scenic! http://www.google.com/m/search?q=mul...CBMQ7AkwAA...I don't have a specific trailhead to give you but a guide book on the region would be worth having. I've driven that route many times and I'll be doing my first excursion there this summer, sort of a backpacking family reunion. I'm excited to make fun of my brother sleeping in his expensive tent from my $10 DIY hammock

Eagle Creek. It is about an hour east on I-84, and is but a 5 mile hike in to some wonderful waterfalls, including one you walk behind!

Yea, I had read a good bit about Eagle Creek but it's not rated as kid friendly due to exposure. It and Opal Creek are about the only two trails I'm familiar with. We mountain biked in and out of Opal Creek the last time we were up. I don't know how my daughter would be walking on a narrow edged trail. I really want to do Eagle Creek by myself all the way to Tunnel Falls but that is another trip.

I know of several children who have hiked that trail, including a 5 yr old. If yours is afraid of heights, it might not be a good idea, but if she is not then I would go for it. It is exposed somewhat, but not all that bad, IMO. I may be one of those parents who is not bothered by such, but I really do not think it is all that dangerous, for kids or others.

Thanks for the help. I was going by the trail description but personal advice trumps that every day. I think I'll shoot for Eagle Creek!
