What to do with hammock during the day?

Hello hammockers. I've searched for discussions regarding this topic, but I've not come across anything. So...

When hanging in one spot for lengthy intervals, do you tend to pack up your hammock completely during the day? Leave it hanging but roll it up in snake skins? The obvious concern is theft, but I was looking more for your thoughts on exposing the hammock to harsh UV, wind, etc. when it was not actively sheltering an occupant.

Sort of depends. If I'm not in a public area, I leave it up. If I'm in a public area, but have friends hanging around camp all day, I leave it up. If I'm in a public area and won't be there during the day, nor will any friends, then I take it down...sometimes.

Mostly, I worry about my quilts. I would never leave those unattended in an area with foot traffic.

I leave it deployed because it is also my camp-chair. But I also spend most of my time camping in the hammock reading.
    I ride a recumbent.
I like to HAM it up on the CW.
    I use Linux.
    I play go.
Of course I sleep in a hammock!

Well I never camp in busy areas, I aim for wilderness solitude. I tent to leave it up, if the weather is foul I might furl it into it's drybag and clip it out of the way on it's ridgeline to give me more space to work under, especially since I switched to a poncho tarp

Basically what Cannibal and Highbinder said. I usually camp where no one else will see it, so I'll leave it up...but I usually put my UQ inside in case of unexpected weather. If I expect bad weather, I'll put heavy stuff inside as well to weight it down so it's not flapping in the wind and getting wet.

If I'm in a public place, I might leave it up for a couple hours w/o me there, but I'll usually take it down if I plan to be gone longer than than. Obviously, the length of time depends on what that public area is like.

I find that if it is not obvious that it is unoccupied, people generally don't bother it. Maybe because they are unsure what type of person may come out of it. However, I have not left my hammock deployed for any large amount of time(hours) unattended to test this; due to the fact I am almost always backpacking when I use it.

These thoughts had never crossed my mind before ... now I'm getting paranoid.

I have camped in several camp sites and left my hammock, fully set up and, unattended all day and never had a problem with theft.

Just make sure the guy next to you has nicer stuff and anyone stealing stuff with leave yours alone. :P
