    whoopies on hennessy...

I have been reading and see many topics about putting whoopies on hennessy but still left me wondering..
so....I got myself about 120 feet of amsteel to play with... and now my 2 brain cells go to work....

I use the factory tarp... and it is attached to the factory suspension line with a prussic knot.
when i tighten the tarp.. the prussics are about 2 feet from the gathered end of the HH.. then I add the bury... maybe another 8" or so ?

after all that add this and add that... I get to a min span between trees of 13 feet... then some for attachments... seems like a long span if I want to use whoopies with the prussic tarp attachment.

am I over thinking this... or am I going to have to give up the prussic style tarp attachments ?

I gave my hennesy hammock the whoopie sling conversion. Luckily I gave up the prussick method long before.

I just don't like the way it sags, I really like my tarps tied to trees.

well.. I guess I will try and see how it goes.
I really like sliding the snake skins back and deploy both tarp and hammock...

How many times have you taken down your hammock/tarp in the rain? Two problems here - storing a wet tarp inside waterproof snakeskins with the hammock is a recipe for a wet, uncomfortable next night. And...you'll have no rain protection while you're packing up your hammock, which isn't a problem if you store it outside the pack...but storing my shelter outside my pack in a rainstorm isn't my idea of a good system.

Just something to think about re: keeping the hammock and tarp together in the skins.

Personally, I keep my tarp in an outside pack pocket so it's the first thing I set up or the last thing I take down in the rain...my pack is closed and protected the whole time (and the hammock inside it). Doesn't make this method more or less worthy than yours...just offering another perspective. Hope you find what works for you!

    that is a good point...
I have packed up many times in the rain..and and it was a pita to try to keep the hammock dry.

I just tried a whoopie with the extra length on one side... and it is too long..

I guess it is time for me to change.
I have an extra pair of skins... and now a bunch of amsteel... guess I will make ridge lines for my tarp and snake it up separately from the hammock.

    Thanks Jeff

You can use little accessory cord for the hammock...don't need the strength and weight of amsteel.

Besides, in really heavy winds I'd rather my cord snap before my tarp rips b/c I can repair it with just a knot. But if the tarp rips b/c I was using 550 cord or amsteel...well now I have a problem. Systems approach.

You could use the snakeskins for your hammock but detach the tarp, ties it off to the trees, and store it separately in a bishop sack.

That way you can set up and take down the hammock under the tarp. Also, you can keep the wet tarp separated from the hammock.

    thanks all..
now that I have made a few whoopies for the HH.
I needed some lines for the tarp... and Jeff killed my fun making them from amsteel

so....I decided to make some whoopies out of braided mason line...
they seem to work pretty good... a little harder to make than amsteel... but it works...

not sure if they will last... or lockup or slip when wet....

    Hehe...just offering ideas!

Interested to hear how the mason line works out.
