I got my braided yellow masons line at the home depot. Lowes didn't carry it. The braided stuff actually resists twisting and tangling.

If it weren't for physics and law enforcement, I'd be unstoppable.
Braided mason's line is non existent around here. However, there is plenty of braided line of various diameters in the fishing section of your favorite sporting goods store.
I've used the braided Home Depot mason line and didn't care for it. It seemed much more tangle prone than Speer or Kelty Triptease. Also, of note is that when it gets wet the coloring dye leeches all over your tarp. If you buy a spool of pink throw it in a pail of water for a couple hours and check the color of the water.
Try a Klemheist knot. Its similar to a prussic in that its meant to constrict when loaded, but works better for slippery line. I use it on my 2.2mm zing-it tarp lines, with 1.75 continuous loops and it holds well. You can only load it in one direction though, so it might not be the answer depending on what you're doing with it.

Home Depot carries both twisted & braided mason line. Buy the braided. A bit more expensive, but you'll be much happier.
It's been a while since I needed to look for any but HD has had masons' line in a couple of locations in the stores I've used - one by the masonry supplies (duh!) and another near the rope section. Dunno if they still do that, tho.

The mason line I've used sucked up water and stretched like crazy. Then I used para-cord, which had all the problems of mason-line and swelled knots making them near impossible to loosen when wet. Things got much better with Kelty triptease, but the stuff is goofy expensive. Finally I went to 250lb test Spectra fishing line (Power Pro at Cabelas) - it's all I've used for the last few years. I use it everywhere I need a guy line or tie down.

I use the Marshall Town mason line, but the ONLY place I can find it is Home Depot, NOT AT LOWES. It really surprised me the first time I hung my tarp with it. I didn't have any problems seeing the guy lines. It really stands out. I just use it for the "extra" tie-outs on the tarp. The main tie-out I have the line that came with the Figure 9s.
