    Soccer Goals...hmm

I, unfortunately, don't have two trees in my yard that are close enough together to hang from. Who thinks a regulation soccer goal would hold up a hammock for some urban-hammock testing?

Seems 6'-6" x 18'-6", and made of Sched. 40 steel pipe, permanent, set in concrete, at the neighborhood park.

    Think it'll work?

It should definately work, but you may slide down the posts. FWIW I have seen multiple people hang on them (by their hands not hammocks) before and not fall.

Looks like its too long, your bum might be on the ground.
    It is strong enough.
    I ride a recumbent.
I like to HAM it up on the CW.
    I use Linux.
    I play go.
Of course I sleep in a hammock!

I am assuming there is a crossbar? It is not unusual for players to jump up and hang from the crossbar, so it should probably hold you.

Just make sure there isn't a game going on, or you may need a stronger bug net!

The goals at my park are 18'-6" x 6'-6". Still too long?

Give it a try. Its a bit wide, but if you get your straps high enough, you should be able to make if work. Keeping your straps from slipping on the poles might be difficult.

Actually, at 6' 6'' you should be able to hang from the cross bar and adjust the length to anything under 18'.

I'll try it out tonight and let you fellas know how it works. I've got quite a lot of strap to work with, and I don't think the pipes are perfectly smooth either, so I may be in luck as far as friction is concerned.

The hammock hang calculator website tells me I can probably get away with it...

+1 on the crossbar. My hammock stand (turtlelady design) is basically 2 tripods with a crossbar hanging between them. I made 2 loops from mule which I prussic to the crossbar, and marlin spike to my hammock. You have to get those prussics nice and tight, but they stay in place. So, yeah, if the posts don't work... aim high
You're gonna need a bigger hammock

The distance is not the problem - that's what structural ridgelines are for.

However, it's not a good idea to use goals as jungle gyms or hammock stands. The overwhelming majority of serious injuries and fatalities in soccer come from goals coming down on people's heads. Even if you're sure that the goal you hang from is structurally sound and well anchored, it's a bad idea to be seen using one inappropriately. It gives kids the idea that it's okay to play on them.

Just lay down the goal, and use the net as a hammock

Edit: I didn't realize that the goal's was bolted down
