As far as hiking and backpacking, I would definitively say to look into
www.backpackinglight.com
A great resource and lots of trip announcements and get togethers as well
In my opinion, the best resource is BPL:

Backpacker also has good information:

Other excellent sites will depend on your location. For example, if you hike in the Northeast these would be very helpful:

This is a website that has a lot of very helpful information and has a Canadian focus to it:

Another vote for Backpackinglight. I have been a member there for many years, almost from the start, which gives access to the editors' articles. The forum there is free however, and is populated with extremely knowledgeable people for lightweight backpacking, just like HF is for hammocking. The atmosphere there is also friendly, which for me, is a big plus.

+1 on Backpackinglight.
I also enjoy PracticalBackpacking.com
Good people, and a lot of data you can search on. They don't talk brands of gear all the time like Backpackinglight but focus on Backpacking methods and practices.
