Not sure why that didn't cross my mind. =] Have you tried a permethrin treatment on Amsteel?

I have not tried it on Amsteel. Reason is, even when I'm using Amsteel (Whoopies) there is still the webbing around the tree (treated) and my hammock (treated) on either end of the Amsteel.
They still have to touch my fabric of death before or after hitting the Amsteel.

Ooo, not the cheerful little songbird you like to wake up to.

    NO, need an Aardvark
effective but you left out the fact that Aardvarks are poopin machines AND they pass gas ALOT!!! I don't know if you're familiar with ant farts, but ants in your hammock are a great deal easier to take. WHEWIEE!!!

This is one of the reasons I've opted for a Hennessy with the built in bug netting. I'm HOPING that if this happens to me at least the little critters will stay outside of the netting on their journey.

It would be bad enough to wake up to see the little guys scurrying across the rope/netting...much, much worse to wake up to find them scurrying across ME!

sounds like i should make that happen. The pine trees around here seem to attract mutant size ants. Those ants seem to be attracted to the color orange.

Which kind of treatment did you use?

I remember those ants quite well from when I was hiking the Florida Trail. They make the gators seem tame.

Sawyers Permethrin is what I use when given a choice. Dicks, Cabellas, Bass Pro Shops all carry it, or you can order it online. If Walmart is just too convenient, they carry something called Permone (looks like they changed the name, not Permone anymore) made by Repel. It works just as well, only doesn't seem to last as long IMO.

** Alcohol is the best thing to use when you trim trees to prevent insects from attacking/invading the fresh cut.
That's right, get'em drunk first!!!! Then they can't pass a sobriety test. Or pass out before they reach the hammock.
