    Split Rock Lighthouse State Park

Headed up to Split Rock Lighthouse State Park for an overnighter. I hopped in the car and got off to a late start with no real plan. I stopped at a couple trail heads on the Superior Hiking Trail from Two Harbors up to Split Rock but the trail head lots were full of cars. Since it was already afternoon I didn't figure I'd have a good chance of finding an open campsite on the trail so I stopped in at Split Rock and they actually had one backpack campsite open so opted to grab that. The weather was great. Got a few sprinkles in the evening but no serious rain until after I got back to my car. I timed my exit just right. The snow appears to be all gone up there but I'm sure there is lots of mud on the SHT. Should be good conditions in a few weeks when I head up for a few nights over Memorial Day weekend.

Mmmm.... camping. Looking forward to getting up there in June
When it seems like the night will last forever
And there's nothing left to do but count the years
When the strings of my heart start to sever
And stones fall from my eyes instead of tears
I will walk alone by the black muddy river
And dream me a dream of my own

    Best campsites in MN

The Split Rock backpack sites IMHO are the best camping in the state. Where else do you get solitude and a site right on Superior?

    Brings back fond memories

    Sweet.

Am I the only one who thinks that you probably had the best night's sleep of anyone who's used that tent pad?

I loved the scene of you getting water at the end. I have never camped there but now I will!
Always good to be up on our treasured North Shore....we sure are lucky to have it only 3+ hours away!

Great Trip Report Pizza. I love a hanging spot with a view.
Have you ever tried any fishing from that area?
