    Hancock Flag Fabric?

Stopped by the local store yesterday, was looking at ripstop nylon and nylon 'flag fabric'. The latter seemed a bit more heavy duty, but not too heavy for a DIY hammock...at a guess from a guy who's never made one.

Looking for thoughts from the people in the know...any reason why this wouldn't work or shouldn't be used? Thoughts or suggestions?

    Thanks in advance!

I once made a BlackBird Clone out of some of that heavy stuff from Walmart. It ended up being about 11 ounces heavier than my double 1.7. But.... man did it lay flat!

Depends - Do you count your grams ? Honestly, I think the deciding factor if weight is not an issue is, is it breathable?

Nope, entirely too lazy to count grams.

I'll admit that I'm asking if anyone has used/tried it from the breathable/durable/safe to hang perspective.

Not as much worried about the weight. Mostly 'cause if I make one, it'll be for one of my sons, not me. It'll be nice to slow 'em up a little bit so the old man can keep up with a little less effort. LOL!

I used some of the flag fabric from Hancocks for the bottom and part against the back in a backpack. It holds up well to the abrasion but is significantly heavier than rip stop nylon. It's surface isn't as smooth as rip stop nylon, but as with most things it's a matter of personal preference.

I think the rougher texture of the flag fabric would not be as comfortable. The ripstop at Hancocks that I've bought is 1.9 oz really nice and very strong stuff. I have thought about using their flag material for a backpack project as it reminds me of pack cloth in texture.

That's kinda what I was thinking as well. Plus I think a patriotic backpack would be kinda cool.
