    Differences in BB suspension?

I had a BB and really liked the suspension with strap and triangles. Idiot proof

I'm wanting to add the BB suspension to my new hammock and bought a used pair from an inmate. They are slightly different than what I had ... my other set had silver triangles that were made from flat stock and had squared edges that really caught the strap. The new set arrived from the seller today and the triangles are made from black round wire. I did the switch and sat in the hammock and slowly sank to the ground.

    The triangles aren't holding.

Any ideas why ... these things are useless??

The older suspension needs a half hitch tied above the strap to stop the slipping.

FWIW Brandon has evolved the buckles 3 times since I bought the blackbird.

    Hey Dan

I think Paul from AHE sells the triangular plates.

Some really like them Dan. The more recent buckles don't require a half hitch but can be real tough to get to release. It takes a few seconds to tie a half hitch (Brandon actually demos yours in his how to video) and you might actually like these more. Give the half hitch a shot.

Just back from the hammock room (basement) and the half hitch seems to work OK.

I'll give it a full test tonight.

And yeah, the newer triangles were tougher to get apart, maybe I'll like these after all.

Thanks for the lead Bomber, just in case these get frustrating.

Last I read, Paul was still thinking about getting them back in stock. He said he had other projects on the go that were taking more of his time and the buckles were not a priority.

The newer buckles are great but as Law Dawg said, and as you have found, they are harder to disengage sometimes. A slippery half hitch is more convenient at times.

The cinch buckles are not on Pauls site right now. I hope he continues to sell them or somebody else does. I use them on all my hammocks. Easy to use and do not slip

You could also try the JRB Triglides instead of the triangles. I love the simplicity of the Warbonnet suspension but I always had trouble with fine tuning, because these damned things bite down so much. If my hammock had any kind of weight in it (e.g. a sleeping bag), I couldn't get the triangles to move. I ordered the Triglides for a different suspension project, which only partially worked out. I'm now switching out my whoopie slings to a webbing and triglide combo - only I'm not using the triglides as JRB suggests, but very similar to the original Warbonnet suspension. I still use the biner on the tree end; the triglide sits on the hammock end. It's as simple as the triangles, just as bomb proof, and I find it a lot easier to fine tune.
