THere are several small battery powerd inflators out there.
I always wondered about the little CO2 inflators for a bicycle tire if they would have enough volume of gas to fill a pad..

My wife bought me one of these for Christmas a couple of years ago.
It has a built in hand pump and is down filled. I've used it now in tent camping and partially filled in my modified ENO Double nest. Worked great in all situations.

    Exped DownMat™ 9 and 9 Deluxe
    •Ultralight, compact four-season mats
    •3-1/2" thick for extreme comfort
    •700-fill power goose down insulation
If you're looking for a mat that can hack all four seasons – especially the dead of winter – consider the award-winning Exped DownMat 9 and 9 Deluxe. The 3-1/2"-thick mats with down insulation effectively stop the heat-robbing ground from getting to you. Lightweight and compressible, they roll up to a pack-friendly size, a huge plus when repacking to get back on the trail. Both come with an integrated pump for faster inflation/deflation time. Imported.

I own two. They REALLY WORK, and weigh next to nothing. Their customer service is excellent. I actually had a little trouble getting my order processed and they sent me an additional Instaflator free, and a nice letter of apology. When I have to go to the ground, I'm able to inflate my Big Agnes extra long air core matress with just two inflations of this cool device, and it requires zero sinus pressure.

Only down side: The plastic material they are made from is extremely noisy. I disturbed other people in a shelter one evening when I arrived late.

Cool concept, I might get one to try it out.

great tip, I am hanging this weekend and will try that on my old thermarest.

I had the same thought about the co2 canister, but didn't know how to puncture the cylinder and deliver the air.

I saw the Expeds yesterday at a local store, nice but spendy. I just bought a new sleeping bag, so I can't get one right now.

I do mostly motorcycle camping, with other guys, we don't always make it to an area with trees big enough to hang. I have to go to the ground every now and then, so I opted for a sleeping bag and pad, just in case.

You could also try the Exped Synmat 7 w/ pump You can either blow it up, or it has a built in pump that works really well. You basically give it CPR and it has a one way valve.

Clever device. Reminds me of a snakeskin....

You could make one from a silnylon stuff sack if you can figure out a coupler.

+1! on this device. I've loaned it to my sister and a fellow Scouting parent. Both think it works great. It takes two fills to blowup my Big Agnes Air Core. One of the best $12 I've spent.
