I want to fit all my gear in a MLD newt. The only items in my pack that wouldn't fit are my top quilt and underquilt. So I need something that will pack very small. The Leighlo 40's specs are nice but how does it compress? I was also thinking of the Tewa Breeze. BTW Otter is right I will take the weight penalty if it will pack small and be somewhat inexpensive.

Packs small and is cheap usually aren't used in the same sentance. The cheaper the UQ the bigger that thing seems to be.

I own Leighlo's summer UQ and i agree that it is your winner. I was comfy in mine down to 36 and it packs down very small. A little larger than a softball. maybe cantelope size... the poncho liner is very bulky for the actual warmth it provides...
if your going to use a Newt you really need to go with down
no way your getting a Synth in there i have a newt and packed it 20 different ways you really need to compress your quilts to make room in that pack
for all the qualities you are looking for in a UQ you need to spend money
look at the Yeti,Hammock gear summer quilt,Leighlo's summer UQ or a DIY if your a diy kinda guy .. no matter what look to spend money
It puts the Underquilt on it's hammock ... It does this whenever it gets cold
+3 on the LeighLo 3/4. It packs down pretty small.I had mine down to 30*, no issues, and compressability was fine. Its about the size of a grapefruit. One thing you may want to do is simply stuff it into a pack, without the stuffsack. I am almost stuffsack free-I have one for my quilts, and one for food. Everything else is just stuffed into nooks & crannies in my pack. I only keep the UQ/TQ in a stuff sack in the event of rain. And, well, food should be separated from everything else anyway...
I would consider $120$-130(leighlo 2/3's or tewa breeze) quite reasonable. So it looks like I am going with either a leighlo, a tewa, or diy insultex underquilt. Any top quilt suggestions? I can either go insultex on top or bottom but not both.
