    Son made me proud tonight

My son and I are going on a trip this summer to the BWCA. His 13th birthday is next week and we are going canoeing this weekend as a little warm up to the real thing. We have been using DIY hammocks that have worked very well. I made them last year and we have slept many nights in them. However, I just could never get the bug netting to work the way I wanted it to.
So I ordered us both a new WBBB. I've gotta tell you it's all that and a loaf of bread. Very comfortable and looks great with a bug net that fits!
So tonight we are packing and I tell him I have an early bday present for him and present him with his own WBBB. I go over all the cool features and really talk it up but notice he seems less than impressed.
After my sales pitch, he looks up at me and says "But dad, I like the one you made for me".
For just a second, I was the coolest dad ever.
Maybe a lame story, but I just had to share with someone.

BTW, we'll use the WBBB eventually. But this weekend it'll be the old DIYer's.

That's great! I can only hope my daughter will say something like that to me one day. Though she is only 15 months old, ill probably have a blackbird for her by next year, haha. And ill understand when I make her a diy hammock why she'll say, but daddy, I like the one Brandon made me. Haha.

Great story! What a good son you have.
The bug netting will be useful in the BWCA, and hopefully he'll attach some good memories to his WBBB on that epic trip.

Not to worry, man--you're still the coolest dad ever. (and it sounds like your son is following in your footsteps ).
You're gonna need a bigger hammock

You should feel very proud indeed. He will eventually love the Blackbird but for now let him be proud of the hammocks that you created for ya'll and enjoy the time together.

    Thanks for sharing . . .

    . . . nothing lame about that

It is the kinda story that makes your heart bulge to over flowing . . .
and the only way to relieve that pressure, is to share with others.
