If you pitched it as a diamond, maybe not. 7ft long is too short for most hammocks I'm familiar with to use this tarp as a rectangle. I'm thinkin' this still may be too short even in a diamond pitch.

    Yes and no

If it is pitched asym and you have straight down rain it will keep you dry. Trust me though you want something a little bigger. I am going to add triangles on each end of mine and make a hex tarp. Another guy on the forums bought 2 of these tarps and sewed them together. If you do decided to buy 1 of these make sure you sew webbing loops on instead of using the grommets(they are not strong enough and will pull out). Good Luck!

gutterman thread seems to be the choice of the DIY folks. I think arrowhead sells this, if you can't find it locally.

Here's the thread that Mancat was talking about.

A 5x7 tarp diagonally will give you a ridgeline of 103", so unless you have a really short hammock (the ridgeline of my hammock is something like 102") I don't think it will provide enough coverage. My 7x10 gives more than enough coverage, and was relatively easy to bodge together in less than an hour.

Make sure the thread is 100% polyester...not cotton or poly-coated cotton core...100% polyester. Pick your brand, but remember that cheap thread will break easy, gum up your machine with lint, etc. That's why most of us use Gutermann's brand. Friends don't let friends use Coats and Clark.

Dude, too funny. Last night my first time on the injector, kept getting the 1872 balling up, found I had a blend. Singers are heavy to toss and they don't bounce well!
