    Welcome!

If you are still looking for suspension related stuff you should check THIS out. It is a four pack of polyester strap (polyester doesn't stretch) tie downs. I use these for tree straps to avoid damage. This package has enough for both you and your friend and it is dirt cheap.

I'd also like to throw in four 1/8th inch amsteel nacrobiners for free as a PIF (pay it forward), two each for you and your less-than-tech-savy friend.

Here is a picture of a nacrobiner in action. What you see is, from left to right, my whoopie sling, a nacrobiner (It's the thing with the bit of yellow on it), and my tree strap (the same ones I recommended above).

As you can see, they are a replacement for carabiners. They weigh next to nothing and work like a dream. Send me a PM if you are interested and I'll get them sent out to you right away.

    Mike,
thanks for the heads up on the straps..... I've had many of those lying around the garage for years for other uses.

Currently I'm using toggles on my straps, then to woopies, since thats the way it was setup when I bought it. I can't imagine an easier setup.

I have no idea which way my buddy will decide to go, I guess that'll depend on which hammock he ends up with, and how it comes setup.

I do appreciate the generous offer of the PIF however, and would be willing to try out the idea if you don't mind. I'll PM you my info, thanks again.

    Dave,

just be sure those are polyester and not nylon. Nylon will stretch overnight and you'll find your bum on the ground.

    Deal on Grand Trunk hammock+tarp

There is a deal on EBay - $80 for Grand Trunk Skeeter Beeter UL and tarp.

Its a pretty easy way to get a relatively complete package for trying out hammocks. Might be something for your friend to consider.
