    Finishing Nylon

Ok so I could put a rolled hem on the edge of nylon. I could finish the edge with bias tape. Or I could heat seal the edge with a lighter or candle.

Is any of these more durable a edging system than the others? Mostly I'm just wodering if heal sealing the edges are good enough for repeated usage untill I decide on a bug barrier solution.

I am not sure heat sealing would be a good long term solution but thats just my opinion. I prefer the rolled hem method. Yes you lose about an 1in or 2in but thats not much when most fabrics are around 60in wide. Also if weight is an issue i would say that a rolled hem is your best bet for the long term and you only add a bit of thread weight.

This is just my opinion i hope somebody else agrees with me.

Heat sealing will most certainly stabilize the edge until you decide how to attach the bugnet. IMO you would want to roll the hem if you expect to use the hammock for any length of time prior to the bugnet. While I doubt the heat seal would fail it can be very scratchy getting into and out of the hammock.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

Heat seal doesn't work well for me. Besides I am not really good at getting a straight line when heat-sealing. I personally prefer a rolled hem over every other solution -- lightweight, straight-forward, easy to do and proven to be withstanding (at least for me).

I've made 6-7 hammocks now... maybe more... all have rolled hems. It's quick, easy, and looks great... Binding the edge will work, but I've never had an issue with a rolled hem.

For the heat sealing, I use a really cheap woodburner set, you'd be amazed how easily and nice the cut is, and it only takes a quick swipe (don't do on the dining room table though, your wife may take your thread injector away!).

Even though the edge will be pretty neat, easy to tear... rolled seam is lightest and easiest IMHO.

    rolled hem.

Nylon hammock material is not as finicky as sil nylon for tarps. Rolled hem is easier and looks better.

I use binding tape for my sil tarps because I have a bias binder attachment and it is MUCH faster than trying to hem it. I also like the look of it on a tarp. I've never done it on a hammock.

Any pics of your bias binder? I was thinking about getting one of those...
