    another new one

    Hello from RI
First post and a few questions to go in some other categories as time goes on.

Week long motorcycle trip 2 weeks ago, first time hanging and Im hooked. Have some modifications in the works for the suspension and tarp hanging.

Didn't bring a back up tent...First night on the ground between 2 posts but had an air mattress so not bad.

Second night on top of mt. mitchell with ice and wind overnight but survived and did rather well in the HH ultralite and supershelter.

I actually had a hard time getting to sleep in our bed upon return but have now settled in back to my "previous life".

    Thanks for having me.

Welcome, Doc! Glad you enjoyed Mt. Mitchell, and all its weather! Sounds like you're well on your way to facing any challenge with comfort and security.

Welcome to the forum. What a time for a first hang. I did a trip to Mt. Mitchell not too long ago (read report here or here)but was not met with the extreme weather you experienced. Wow. I was definitely prepared for the 40+ mph winds we experienced. I would have died if we had an ice storm come in. Which site did you camp at? We stayed on site 5 and had amazing views because of the chainsaw crew cleaning up some of the previous storm damage.

wow, thanks for all the warm welcomes!

we stayed at site 5 i believe but no view due to all the fog.

spent 4 hours in the uber warm and beautiful bathroom defrosting ourselves and our gear. ranger came up to check on us later in the morning and told us the roads were clear and it was sunny and 45 about 2 miles down the road!

Welcome from Boston! There are many hangers in the area ..... we often get together for hikes and hangs (in fact we just got back froom a NEHHA hang - NorthEast Hammock Hangers Association). Read everything here, watch the videos, and enhance your time in the piney woods!!
