I wanted to try making a down TQ out of duck down to see the difference between 550 and 650. I didn't find any difference in warmth, the only down side is compressions and weight. it has a few more ounces to get the warmth which directly affects size/weight.
I'm 6'3 and when in it the top edge is right above my forehead.
78x49x2" (loft is about 3.5")
13 baffles
20oz of 550fp down
1.1 DWR camo, so it's about 1.3-1.4oz/yd
bottom us 1.1 uncoated calendared
0.5" gross grain trim
1 cord lock with 3/32" line
3 buttons at footbox
no-see-um baffles
total weight in a lined stuff sack is 2.05lbs. i understand this could be a lot for some but it's not bad for a 3 season TQ. the stuff sack i used was 3 oz and I think with straps it could compress another 2-3" or so.
i've used it three times. the coldest i've taken it was about 38F. i had a REI heavy weight base layer on and wool socks. at that temp i wasn't toasty but wasn't waking up due to the cold. i spent one night in shorts and t-shirt at 51F and was more than comfortable.
i'm only selling it because i've been band from starting a new project until i get ride of a few things.
