UQ out of an old sleeping bag?

So, I'm pretty new and trying to get the hang of all of this.

I've got a nice sil nylon tarp, a cheap Grand Turk UL hammock, and webbing suspensions.

I'd like to try and kludge together an UQ out of an old sleeping bag.

Any pointers or tips? From looking around, most of the DIY projects for UQ's seem to be starting from scratch. Has anyone just triedl to hang an existing sleeping back under the hammock? or modified a sleeping bag to work as a UQ?

    Thanks ahead of time.

Awesome. Thanks. Great ideas. I think I'm going to work on a doubled over down bag idea. Will post it up once I try it out.

Also look up the PLUQ (Poncho Liner Under Quilt) for summer months.

Honestly - after trying both methods, multiple pads, etc. Nothing really worked until I got a real UQ. I got them to work, slept in a 0* down bag with a CF Pad below 20*, but it was awful.

Try to save for the real thing. Keep an eye out in the For Sale section - seen some great deals the last few weeks.

I just finished reusing a old old down sleeping bag for an UQ. It was a rectangular quilt that was at least 45 years old (my grandfathers) and had lost some down/loft over the years. So I shook all the down to one end to consolidate the down and made a 60x48 UQ. On one side I added a layer of IX and ripstop camo. I also darted the end of the down bag and IX to get a differential cut. I was surprised at the quality of the down after 45 years. The original bag cover I'm sure is cotton so it's not the lightest UQ out there! I would think it will make a good winter UQ and should keep my 9 year old warm next month in the BWCA.
