Bird feeder and any of the following, sling shot, paintball gun, BB gun. Honestly any of these three will kill and the ranges you are talking about. Make sure the bird isn't guarding a nest of younglings, then remove him from the neighborhood. (Of course another will take its place in time.)

A fake owl will most likely work and you don't have to feed it.
Just put it on a tall post near your setup in plain sight. You won't see or hear any chirping birds after a few days.
    Trust nobody!

He can't afford me. Besides, I'd probably be sound asleep in my hammock a few yards away!

I can just imagine him in his hammock watching the bird feeder with his thumb on the button waiting for it to fly down...

I notice you're in South Carolina - so your bird may be a mockingbird. They are well known for their night time singing. He'll do it regardless - it's genetically wired!

We have them here too - and I enjoy their night time singing!

Maybe try to think of it as a lullaby especially for hammock hangers??!!!!

I have two smalls trees in my backyard. Typically they're only used to check out new gear, they can't really take any weight. Anyway, tried setting up my new Guide Gear Tarp, reached up into the tree and stopped when a nesting mother happened to choose the exact spot I'd run the line to make her new home.

    from wikipedia:

Nightingales are named so because they frequently sing at night as well as during the day. The name has been used for well over 1,000 years, being highly recognizable even in its Anglo-Saxon form – 'nihtingale'. It means 'night songstress'. Early writers assumed the female sang when it is in fact the male. The song is loud, with an impressive range of whistles, trills and gurgles. Its song is particularly noticeable at night because few other birds are singing. This is why its name includes "night" in several languages. Only unpaired males sing regularly at night, and nocturnal song is likely to serve attracting a mate. Singing at dawn, during the hour before sunrise, is assumed to be important in defending the bird's territory. Nightingales sing even more loudly in urban or near-urban environments, in order to overcome the background noise. The most characteristic feature of the song is a loud whistling crescendo, absent from the song of Thrush Nightingale. It has a frog-like alarm call.
