    Just another IX UQ

I finally got in the mood to make my 3 layer IX UQ yesterday. I expected 4 hours and spent about 8 hours. After that, it took me an hour to find my shock cord for the suspension. It showed up in a pack pocket. I wonder what idiot left it there.

I find paper towel mock-ups helpful to make sure I have the details right.

A lot of darts and pins and it's ready to stitch on the bottom cover.

Good looking set up. I really like your prototype. I just finished a tq made from IX with a poly liner and ripstop nylon outer shell. It is only 2 layer but boy is that thing warm. You should be very happy with your UQ. Good job.

Paper towel mock up!? What a great idea! I'm sure that will save me several costly mistakes as I begin my DIY projects. Thanks!

    Thanks guys.

The mock-ups work great. Bounty napkins take stitching as well. As another example, here's the bottom and inside of a stuff sack with bottom pull handle I did a while back...

    Thanks Red.

Thanks Scott...there's a lot of your materials in it and it's based on your design.

I folded over the point of the corners to leave a finished opening on the side channels. It also forms a reinforcing patch for the corner suspension loops that take more of the stress than the channel ends.

Nice UQ. How many layers of the IX did you use?

Thanks. 3 layers even though I made it for moderate temps. My back always seems to feel slightly cooler than I want.

    It's 57" x 44" and about 15 oz. with suspension.
