I also didn't like the pad under my feet. I recently switched to a full length and would say I am much more comfortable with it. I sleep really cold so for me the extra weight is worth it.

A couple months ago, checking out my setup in the cold, I thought I was gonna have to bail because my feet got wet and numb toes. Getting my feet up against the UQ was almost instant relief.

Cannibal is onto the psych thing and speaking of comfort it works on my mind anytime I'm humping something I don't need up a mountain....seriously if I'm carrying too much it nags me. So I'd be asking myself do I need all of that full uq? But each their own. I go from 2/3's or 3/4's to full on wrap via PeaPod and don't fool with the full lenght in between the extremes.

Comfort is my primary reason for using a hammock and I simply can't remember the last time I slept with a full length quilt outdoors. Full length offers me no benefit of comfort or warmth, just more bulk in the pack.
On a tangent, do you do any winter camping/backpacking? Curious about how a 3/4 length would work during winter time (0-20 degrees).

Actually my favorite time of year.

I've taken partial underquilts down into the -20°s. Temp ranges of 0-20 are no problem at all...for me. I confess to using something under my legs at those temps; usually my empty backpack. I also carry a big ol SuperFly on those trips, which probably helps quite a bit.

I as well use a 3/5 UQ during winter with a pad under my feet and have had no problems with keeping them warm. If my feet do get cold I strap on my down booties and then they warm up nice and quick.
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

I've used a 2/3 underquilt with a pad for the legs down to 3*F. My recent trip over the winter I went down to the upper 20s

A full-length eliminates much of the fiddling since it pretty much covers from end to end. E.g: the hammockgear incubator is 78" long, which is 5" longer than me. That means there is some insulation around my head and neck - nice. It also means that I don't have to concern my self much when changing sleep positions.

The bulk difference isn't significant to me, and the weight difference of 6oz, (between 3/4 and full), is of no concern.

After all, I didn't buy a hammock to save weight, (because you can't beat the ground and a tarp). I bought a hammock for comfort.

I havent bought one yet. I wish I could try a partial length quilt before I decided on a full
Dale Gribble: I'm thinking, "new hammock." For me, laying and swaying in a hammock is like a steady morphine drip without the risk of renal failure.

That why I am going to sacrifice one of my old cheap and heavier sleeping bags and make one and try it out before I spend the money.

Thanks for all the advice. I went with a 3/4 3S Phoenix. I think the 3/4 length will work for me, but if not, it doesn't look like it will be too hard to sell it.
