I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

Very cool! Sounds like you may have started a tradition... at least until he gets heavy enough where you can't lift him in!

1 of us hangs with the strap coming off one side of both trees and the other off of the other side using the trees as spreaders. I like to hang about 6 to 12 inches lower so we can touch if we want but otherwise we aren't. This keeps us much closer to each other, the ground and the weather protection.
If you check out post #24 in the following thread you'll see this in action. Uncle Tom is even demonstrating laying off center in a Trek Light and is barely touching the other hammock; so when my son is in the other hammock off center and parrallel to me we aren't touching. Our suspension system has changed since then however our tenique is exactly the same under 1 tarp.

Weekend before last we went hammock camping with our new woopie sling suspension, biners and straps; this made set up and adjustment MUCH easier, faster, and lighter. The larger tree was only around 18" in diameter and the smaller was 12" in diameter, they were about 18' apart. I was around 12" off the ground and son was about 18". We did not touch at all and shared a GG 12X12 tarp in A-frame mode. The very end of his Trek Light Double (over 10' long) got a little damp with wind driven rain but he and his bag were dry.
I was concerned about hanging him too high in the air in case of an equipment failure; which is why I hang pretty low myself.
Haha, nice. This is how my boyfriend and I camp because we only have one tarp. It's kinda fun. He pokes my back in the morning to see if I'm up yet.
