I'm surprised that with the number of requests for them on the forum that no-one else has started making and selling them. Even a DIY kit for sale would be nice. A group buy on the components?

Except for a bag, the rest of the components can be sourced for less than $2. Not really worth doing a buy for that kind of thing.

AS is right there very easy to make ... you can get a dry bag at Wally world for $10 for the set of 3 (use the big green one) and the parts from US plastic with shipping is $10 ...

then add the filter or your choice .... Hiker pro,Sawyer,Platy,MSR

the sawyer would be your best bet and you only need to buy one since there good for 1 Million gallons

I have been out of the game for a while due to back injury and to MY knowledge, it was the lightest water filtration system available without chemical. The seam sealant to fix my old one was toxic-looking so i may diy another one

Can't speak for the other filters but the sawyer inline came with all the hardware to attach it. What is needed will also vary based on if you do it inline or inside the bag. I prefer inline as it makes it lower down and hence more pressure and faster (once it starts flowing, takes longer initially to start flowing well).

Parts list and directions can be found in this post (see post #19 - the linked thread should be made a sticky... took me forever to find it again).

My first attempt at putting a gravity filter together was a bit of a failure. I used a cheap WallyWorld dry sack, and got a bit careless making the hole in the bottom, so I had a little leak.

My next attempt was with an 8 liter Sea to Summit Sil dry bag. Much more careful, and much better results.

Here is a shot of my first set-up in use on the Cross Timbers trail...
