Hangers,
For those of you who didn't read the thread, "Ultralite & Value Priced = dphammockgear.com", this is my thought on how the dp Under-Quilt 1/2" insulation could have 4" of loft controversy.
How does the dp Under-Quilt loft from 1/2" insulation to 4"?
The infamous "4 inches" ... Best I remember the friend's quote was, "Dave, it looks like there is 4" of loft".
I wish my buddy had said, Dave it looks like there is 4" of loft "on the end".
I'm sure the vast majority of you visualized the quilt's pressure points and said "NO WAY".
I'm the first to agree. It is physically impossible for the dp Under-Quilt to have 4" of loft at pressure points with the way the dp Under-Quilt is made.
It was my mistake that I didn't make it clear in the controversy that I was visualizing where the infamous 4" puffed pockets are, the END of the quilt, the foot end of the quilt.
So, please try to see my point of view and visualize the "end" of the quilt?
On a gathered end hammock, the dp Under-Quilt is also gathered at each end to seal the warmed air space. And it's gatherings hang rather loosely from the hammock at the ends of the quilt.
Just below the under-quilts gathering, there is a puffiness created and the quilt hangs down up to the hanger's pressure points in the hammock.
Does the dp quilt's end gatherings look like there is 4" of loft?
Maybe. Maybe not, but it's close. I guess it depends on where you look?
I'm off to a hang in an hour to clear my head, so I won't be available to answer my critics for a few days.
dp Dave
