how do i hang this?

Ive just got myself my first camping hammock, its a "Travelmates jungle hammock" with a bug net. It didn't come with any instructions so i am a little confused.

It has hemmed end style design:

It comes with S-bends to attach it to the suspension system. However im not sure how the hammock end should be set up. which of the two pictures have i set it up correctly?

ah, good to hear someone else has one, very little info on the net.

so i pass the rope back through itself to create a loop? like in picture 1?

also, the bug net has loops on either side to hang it, do i use two lines to hang it, or do i gather the two sides together and pass one line through both? where do you find it best to attach the net line, to the tree or to the hammock?

Regarding the bug net, in the beginning i used some extra cordage to elongate the elastic that comes with it. And just ran it around each tree(to widen up the bug net). But after a while i got fed up with that system and made a structural ridgline(it require that you make a small hole in each end of the bug net, for the ridgeline to go through). As a bonus, the excess bug net material can be used like a shelf warbonnet style

ah nice.

i was thinking about having a ridgeline to get the hammock sag right each time. it would also be nice if the whole thing was together as one unit.

why the holes? doesnt the net already have loops on it, or do you need extra holes towards the end of the net? do you have any pictures?

warbonnet style shelf? sorry im very new to hammocking and its terminology.

The reason for the holes is the hammock is sewn shut in the ends(and the ridgeline is normally inside the bug netting).

No pics with the details... sorry.

The Warbonnet Black Bird hammock has a shelf for storage(brilliant feature btw). And with an internal ridgeline there is way to much netting, but if it is tucked aside the hammock body - it will form kind a like a "shelf". Which is very useful because of the way anything "gravitates" to the lo.west point of your hammock(annoying when you sleep)

Bomber- when you made the hole in the netting, did you do anything to close up the holes, or stop it fraying? any idea of your ridgeline length?

also, how have you found the hammock in general use/ are there any other modifications you made?

I don't use the hammock that you have but I do use the Skeeter Beeter Pro which also has a built-in bug net. What I did was go to the local ACE hardware store and buy a piece of 5" x 5" scrap 1/16th" thick rubber and some gorilla glue (i recommend this type for all your gluing needs). I then cut four 2" circles out of the rubber and used a 6mm knitting needle to carefully pierce the center of each of the rubber circles. I then carefully glued the circles with their holes lined up to the inside and outside of the bug netting, like this

NOTE: \ = hammock, O = rubber circle, | = bug net, -- = ridgeline, / = hammock

I did this at the centerline of the hammock just above where the bug netting meets the hammock. This should be where the ridgeline would enter. I then repeated on the other end to get this:

Once the glue has dried use your knitting needle and pierce the bug netting through the holes in your newly installed rubber bug-gaskets. Then attach your ridgeline to one end of your hammock, the other end through the gasket, out the other gasket and attach to other end. If you did it right it should be nice and snug where the gasket meets the ridgeline to prevent critters from crawling in. Here is what it should look like with ridgeline installed.

I just pulled out a few stiches aproximately in the middel of the bugnet. And after i installed the ridgeline(regarding length, it's supposed to be 80% of the hammock length - i eye balled it) i closed it up with a few stiches again.(when i get home i'll try and take some pic's - i'm out on the trail now via the cell phone)

Edit: the suggestion that MWE gives sounds like a sensible solution.
