Exactly what I do. UQ, TQ, both unstuffed-then my clothing bag & hammock. Everything else resides on top of that. I carry an extra drybag, in case of rain, but rarely use it.

I would take it... you can always vent it if needed. Heck, I was cool (almost cold) last weekend at 58 deg F... and that was with an UQ (poorly rated).

I sleep with an UQ even indoors(winter incubator @75dg fahrenheit) and just change my top insulation depending on season.

No way i would leave my UQ behind, even when high summer i have my IX UQ with me all the time(literately!) you'll never know how the weather's gonna change, or if u get sick or something(lot's of x factors here).

i'm not sure what i'll do this summer. i didn't have an UQ last summer so i didn't use one at all just simply a small section of ccf pad that i always carry anyway. part of me like the feeling of having covers on top of me. even in the hottest months at home i always have at least a leg underneath my sheets. so i will more often than not take my top quilt before my under quilt.

that's why i am considering using 2qzq's underquilt protector as a wind block at 7oz. really, i'm fine anytime the temps are in the 60's or up...

I'd take it! Its worth the 16oz. I'm thinking about making a thin fleece UQ for this summer. If anything just to keep my down out of the humidity more than need be.

Wags, I like the idea of just the UQ protector for summer months. I'm pretty good at 60 and up my self. And I also feel like I need something on top of me year round.

In my early, Pre-HF.net days, and when I didn't think to insulate below me, I've had a 40+ degree bag (that's generous, more like 45+) with nothing under me down to mid 30's. I had LOTS of layers on, and I was just barely making it through the night, but I didn't die. (I was usually in silk weight long underwear, fleece pants, warm socks, t-shirt, long sleeve T, fleece, and warm hat at night.) I'd say I was somewhere between comfortable and uncomfortable. Now, last night, I slept in low 50's with a UQ rated for around 30 degrees or so, a pad under my feet, hiking pants on, cotton short sleeve t-shirt, and my Eddie Bauer First Ascent synthetic jacket over me backwards (arms in sleeves, back of jacket over chest). Nothing extra over my legs or feet, and I actually slept most of the night just fine. At one point, I got a little chilly and finally tossed my sleeping bag over my legs, but didn't actually get in. I guess I'm a warmer sleeper.

I have the Hennessy SS and I never take it off. I did use the cover without the OCF pad when it was warmer. It just wasn't as snuggly.

Turned out it was a a lil cold .. Took my UQ (thank god for that) thinking it would be more than enough.. No jacket, nothing on my head, no hot socks.

Result: my back was toasty (uq) and got cold feet that kept me awake a lot.

Lesson learn, i dont want to got out again without my warm socks and wool cap no matter what the weather is supposed to be. Huge temp difference between days and night last weekend.

I have attached my hammock to whoopies with soft shackles. I'm even lazier than you guys, I stuff the UQ, TQ and hammock all together. TQ and sleeping clothes stay in the hammock, zip it up and shove it all in trash compactor bag. Spare clothes on top of that then my other stuff.
