I did make my footbox hammock. The fabric is 72" wide, i left the ends square with lots of extra room so i can whip it at an angle if i choose and the triangle 38 x 38 x 54. it lays great and with all the width you can still lay in all 4 directions. the footbox works great as a backrest when using the hammock as a chair. i think next time the triangle needs to be deeper. with a 72" wide hammock i feel the foot box needs to end closer to the center of the hammock than it does right now.
So Jaz, to answer your question, not exactly. i will be whipping it so the finished product is similar to the diagram on the left in my earlier post.

Sounds great. I went with a large footbox on mine also. Can't remember off the top but I am sure its close to your dimensions but my fabrics is only 62''. I am kind of at a stand still with it. I pinned on the bug net like 2 weeks ago, but have not gotten a chance to do anymore work on it.

SwampSloth - any pics you could share of your footbox? I'm back around to working on this again after a long hiatus, and I'm thinking about solutions. My width is 62", so it's shorter than yours & therefore your dimensions wouldn't likely work for me, but it would be interesting to see...

Meteor, with my current hammock project I used a big footbox. 50x38x38 as mentioned above. It was a big stinker. The 50'' that the footbox gave could not compensate for the 76 '' it took. Leaving me with a short side 26'' shorter than my other. Plus with a big old footbox like that it put the foot part almost in the middle of my hammock. Last week and over the weekend I did some hacking on the the footbox and we will see how that goes.

I hope you are able to work out the footbox. It was frustrating to me to have such success at everything except the last (well almost last - before the bug netting) step of building the hammock. I'm sure I made my footbox too large and got tight-side syndrome. I'm thinking I may have to have someone lie inside while I pin fabric to the side, but the way I'm set up I would have to do it outside, and it'll be a pain.

Very interested in your footbox dimensions and pics, should it work out for you - and here's hoping it does!

The new foot box dimensions worked out great. It fixed almost all the problems I was experiencing. Not I have to do a little work on my whipping and it will be perfect.

Just an after thought. Meteor I think I will try the hang and pin method on the next one I build. I am trying to get a better balance in tight side and footbox.

Have done a D.I.Y. WBB clone but ran into the same issues with the side wall (not used to it) the lay was very flat. The lengthened footbox side sounds like a good fix for the issue. Did you use it and how did it work out?

Adding length to the foot box won't help issues. Lengthening the center piece will however help. The longer the connecting piece the closer you will get to matching the opposite side and the less you will get the tight side. Check out TheXringHunt's thread about this. I think he really got it down in his new DIY hammock.

    Newzy,
Also you could look at the other link I started about the DIY WBBB Patterns I also started. In my quest to build this hammock I found the biggest thing to help without taking the hammock apart to fix a real tight footbox side is to adjust the Ridge Line. The longer it was the tighter the footbox side was and when I made the RL shorter by 4" in my case it made the biggest difference without effecting the lay that much. Hope that helps.
