Hickory Creek Trail to Conasauga River Trail 19 May 2011

Just thought to share my overnight trip with you all.

Me and my little Cattle Dog Cowgirl hiked the Hickory Creek Trail in the Cohutta Wilderness and stayed overnight along the Conasauga River. Since it was a weekday I suspected that there would be few if any other backpackers and I was right. I came across a few day hikers but nobody else with a backpack filled with treasures to stay the night.
It was an easy hike with a few shallow rock hopping stream crossings before reaching the intersection of the Conasauga River Trail. The trail is primarily rocks and roots and for the most part, unremarkable. No scenic vistas, basically tree covered, shady with lots of moist muddy spots all along the way. Once reaching the Conasauga River the scenery dramatically improved. Hearing and watching the water roll over rocks and boulders made the hum drum 2 hour hike worth the 3 hour drive.
I didn't use my StickPix the way that I should have but I did take a few regular pictures that shows the campsite that me and the Girl called home for the night. Since I expected an easy to moderate hike I decided to bring along my 2lb Camp Time Roll-a-chair and a few other luxury items. And, after locating, hauling, sawing and processing a bunch of fire wood, this old woman was glad to have a nice chair with a backrest to relax on.

Oh gosh yea. It was a very nice place to settle in for the night. I always prefer camping next to a stream, river, lake, waterfall, ocean, etc., over a waterless campsite anyday. Unfortunately, I don't always have a choice.
