The small knotbones are pretty short. Did you have the knotbone and not the knot bearing the load? Or is the compressive strength of the thing so minimal that it was crushed and broke apart?
My interest in this, as OP, is not to find ways, of which there are several, in which the knotbone can fail, but to understand whether, when it is used as a cleat or toggle around which constricting lines are wrapped, it may be safe and useful at much more than its rating.
I'm not trying to find a use for the things; I'm wondering whether they can spare me or someone else a lot of trouble in untying knots. Just now, I'm wishing that either a tree strap had been longer or that I had not tied a continuous Dynaglide loop with a larks head to it as I did.
