Indoor Hanging

I've seen several threads on this forum about hanging a Hammock in doors, in a house, a dorm room, a bedroom etc.

Always the solutions involved attaching the suspension lines to a fixed anchor point which may pull out or otherwise damage the structure.

I couldn't get this problem out of my head and I think that I've come up with the solution.

I estimate total cost to be under $100 and some of you may already have the materials on hand. I think that it should take an hour to assemble and takes up virtually NO floor space as would a hammock stand. It can be disassembled and moved easily. I have some rough plans ... but

Unfortunately my cheapo CAD program doesn't produce a format which will download to this post.

Have you thought about pressing "print screen" and then pasting that into a new "Paint" document and saving it as a "JPG"?

The stands are placed against the walls on opposite sides of the room and are built to be sized from floor to ceiling. When the PVC pipe is connected together and sized it braces the stand against the walls so that the stands don't collapse inward when there is a load in the hammock. After drawing these, I thought that a piece of steel plumbing pipe would be better in place of the dowel as a suspension attachment. Total floor space taken would be the size of the bottom 2"x4"s.

If the span is too great, a piece of plumber's tape (metal strap with holes every 1/2") screwed to the ceiling should be used at the center span of the PVC pipe to prevent the pipe from flexing in the center.

Post #5 is all that I've got. It should be pretty much self explanitory. I know I'm not an engineer and the design may need a few tweaks here and there but it is basically sound.

Out of 239 views, you 2 are the only ones who have expressed a question.

Look at turtlelady's stand. It's much nicer than this one and is lightweight. She's posted pics of hers in use so it should be really easy to duplicate. Enjoy.

I think I see the intent here, but wouldn't trust PVC's compressive strength for this. Plus, the top and bottom plates could be tacked the to wall/ceiling with pretty light duty hardware.

instead of trusting pvc pipe to maintain the distance between supports...why not just run drywall screws up thru the 2x4, the dry wall, and into the overhead joists (4 points of attachment per 2x4) and down into the floor- the small screws can be removed and probably won't even need patching to keep the land lord happy? besides i can't see where you'd have the room to glue up the pvc anyway
