Saw a modern marvels the other day on rope and they focused a bit on samson. Thought it was cool. They hold the oldest trademark in the US, i guess. Just a cool little bit of classic modern marvels on the ropes. Had an amsteel blue on there that was about 4 inches in diameter. I think that might hold my hammock :-p But, anyway, they mentioned that samson ropes were used from everything from Boating to logging...
Personally, I would think hammocking would give samson a wider "appeal or usage base".
edit: Posted this off-topic here because I felt the DIY crowd would know a bit about amsteel. Nothing much to see here, of course, but the show was pretty interesting.
