    warbonnet needs your opinion

hello all, there's been some talk on another manufactuer's site where they were boasting about having the only hammock model in the world that has bite-proof hammock fabric. regardless of the validity of this statement, it got me wondering, has anybody experienced bite through in any of my models when laying directly on the fabric with nothing under them? which model? double layer or single layer?

folks occasionally ask about mosquitoes biting through, i don't "think" they can bite through either double layer model or the single 1.1, but am not sure about the single 1.7. anybody care to share their experience?

I've slept in the 1.0 dbl WB, the 1.7 single WB, and the 1.7 single Traveler with no bites through any of them.

But since I've doused them all with Permethrin, my report is not exactly the proof you're looking for!!!

So far I've had zero problems with bites and I have the 1.1 single. Although I probably just jinxed myself for the summer

I think I've got the 1.0 dbl and never been bitten through by a mosquito, but my cat did was lying on top of me one night when I shifted, and he bit me. Does that count?

No bites thru my DL 1.0, even though I was camped next to a pond last weekend, and nearly got eaten alive when I got out to make breakfast in the morning!

    Cheers

I have not had my WBBB 1.7 dbl long enough

to have put it to the skeeter test.

But I have slept countless nights in my HH Explorer Dlx (before treating it with permethrin) and not experienced bites. Of course, all of us who report no bites do so on an anechdotal basis, and as the adage goes, the plural of anechdote is not data.

The manufacturer claiming "skeeter-proofness" had its hammocks subjected to a controlled condition test and is touting the results of that test. So be it. I will bet that for most manufacturers the cost of running a lab evaluation that is meaningful (that is, lawyer-proof) would be too expensive.
