    Newbie from Ohio

Hi everyone...I have been reading this forum for about a month and just signed up. I'm in Ohio and looking to get my 13 year old son out and about and away from that darn xbox 360 live!! Husband is disabled so it's up to me to do. I'm learning a lot reading the DIY areas. I'm not afraid of much, looking forward to taking my hand at this, in the Fall (I'm at the magic age where I hate the heat of summer without the pool)....but unsure where to start off with small hikes, and getting out into the wilderness without a typical camp site, taking things slow would be a major key till I build up to longer hikes. Knees aren't what they used to be.

Welcome to the forums, Diva B. Hope you and your son can get out hiking. There's lots of wilderness south of you, though it might take time to find good spots.

If you watch here you might find some of us doing a hang in SE Ohio. If yiu were to join us, it would be a good way to learn a lot about hiking and hammocks.

welcome from your neighbor to the west. There is a hang this weekend down at wildcat hollow, about an hour south of you. south of new lexington. Look up ohio hang in trips and you can get all the details. most are coming for the sunday night hang.

    Welcome!

Echoing Papi, if you have time this weekend, we'd love to have you out for a show and tell (My wife and I are former teachers, so we'd bring worksheets, presentation materials, the works ).

If you tell a time, we'll make sure someone is at the basecamp spot to give you guys a tour, as many of us may be day hiking at various times throughout the weekend.

There are some parking locations that would put you a 10 minute walk or so from our basecamp location.

We'll post details in one location here if you are interested.

Once again, great to have you.

Here's the original thread for this weekend's hike.

I missed this post...still learning how to navigate my way around this forum. Let me have a heads up next time...PM me please. I'd like to at least go and see how everyone is hanging and what they are using. Oh well, perhaps by that point I'll already have some things made up. My son and I will be making stoves and fire starters this week....still putting my order together for the hammocks though.

Welcome to the forums Diva! Wildcat is a great place! There are several campsites not too far from the trailhead to do a short hike in and setup camp to get your son's feet wet. That's where I'll be takin my 10 year old daughter to get her started. I'm in the Dayton area here.
