I ordered some Amsteel blue and boy am I disappointed. This stuff is very strong, but, it is so slick that it will not bite on itself. Even with knots that normally hold it seems to slip. What other rope has a high strength to size ratio?

You are right knots wont work you are going to have to splice amsteel. should work fine for you with a spliced loop or an adjustable bury. what are you using it for? what part of the suspension?

Thanks CW, I am using it to tie onto the hammock and then onto a tree. Using a sibeiran hitch at the tree and a "hammock knot" found online. Hope that makes sense.

For the tree, its a good idea to use some kind of strap to protect the tree. The amsteel may cause damage due to the pressure exerted. Sounds like you could use one half of a typical hammock suspension i.e. a tree strap and an amsteel whoopie sling. The splicing of the amsteel in the whoopie sling means it will retain most of its strength and adjusts easily.

Don't give up on the amsteel. There are several tutorials on the forum that will show you how to work with amsteel. Once you go knot-free yo'll never go back!
If you have a harbor freight nearby, you can normally get polyester tie-down straps for $5. Cut off the buckle and they make great tree straps...
