Those of you with the Kelty Noah's tarp

Do you pitch it based on the instructions that come with it or do you do something special?

You should be able to pitch it square for a more closed in feel and with a little practice you can get the ends pulled in to form doors. There are tieouts in all the places you need the to do this without modifications. There are some pics of my noahs tarp 12 in my album in square mode with doors closed. If you are willing to add tieouts to the door area you are able to get better use of the doors without them being so angled into the inside. I was able to accomplish this on the weekend using a tarp clip to help hold the door closed at the stake.

I copied this type of setup from myles to go like this. I saw it hung on the diagonal at a group hang and it looked massive! Cool, but massive.

    Did it come with instructions???
I usually just pitch my 9x9 in a diamond. Two stakes and a ridgeline is about as simple as it gets.

The square setup will only work on the 12' tarp because of the ridgeline length needed to cover the hammock. The 12 noah has a ridgeline a little over 10' when pitched square. Didn't ask what size the OP had so maybe a 9x9 as well
Same tarp used in 3 different ways, very versatile tarp.

Thanks all! I have the 12 and this weekend will be my first time using a tarp at all. Sadly I won't be able to test hang it first, so I appreciate the pictures.

It looks like the middle of the three pics is what the instructions it came with call for. I'll try that one this weekend and work on the doors later.

When pitched on the diamond it has a ridgeline length of over 17' so sometimes your not able to find trees far enough apart so you need to pitch it square which is equally as easy If you dont try to make doors. take enough stakes and line to give you the option. Have fun trying it out

Myles, in your third picture, what tarp is that under the Kelty?
If it weren't for physics and law enforcement, I'd be unstoppable.

Both the 12 and the 9 have tie outs all over the place. The 12 can be hung as a square using two center tie outs for the ridgeline and stake down the four corners. You probably won't want to fool with doors this weekend as that would limit ventilation. That's more of a Winter pitch.
