That's the issue addressed by the pillow envelope seam and Ch@rlie's cat cut and shock cord along the bottom of the ridge cap. All of these design elements help keep the ridge cap down in a stiff wind.

Actually, the biggest effect a strong wind has on the TED bug net, in my experience, is that it deflects the sides inward, which can cause a gap. That's why I added mini-carabiners in the center of the sides to hook on to my ridge line. Since I added the carabiners, I haven't had any gaps caused by strong winds.

Wow! Really amazing to see the brainstorm of ideas coming together on this. Pip, I was really impressed!

Now if I could just learn to sew netting. Has anyone done HD video of sewing together a hammock and no-see-um?

Finally completed my iteration of the TED, thanks to some feedback from Lady Pips'. For the most part, followed the excellent design, added a couple small things that "felt right" to me....

Adjustable cord locks to adjust tension to fit conditions

Rather than feeding net thru end hole, placed velcro on one side of pillow seam, so that I can easily wrap/unwrap over hammock SRL

Using plastic clips from surplus toilet flapper chain (don't worry, never used lol) to hold shockline at SRL

Edging detail, used Organdy Nylon tape rather than grosgrain

Gotta thank all those before me on this thread, this product works great for me, and holds nice and tight. I'll get total weight later, but total cost about $13!

Rrreevestmmk: Nice job! I love the velcro ridge cap!!! Before I got some mini-carabiners, I used s-hooks similar to yours (mine came from my cats' old rabies tags!!! ) Mitten hooks would work too. Again, your TED looks great. Thanks for posting!!

In my experience, bugs are not a concern when the winds are strong enough to move the fabric. The bugs are lighter than the fabric and get blown away long before the fabric does.

+1 on what TiredFeet said and when used under a tarp wind is not much of an issue

    Excellent design.
I think I'll modify my bottom entry bug net to be the same as yours. I like yours much much more.

I sort of copied the ENO Guardian design but left off the zipper and made the entry through the bottom cinched with shock cord. It works but yours is a definite improvement.
