here is a thought, instead of using eye bolts that are designed for parallel loading what if you where to use climbing hangers such as these http://www.fixeusa.com/hangers.htm attach them to the studs with say 3" lags and then clip a biner to them and then your hammock suspension?

Also, I have some straps (kinda like what oldyellahide mentioned above for door use) that were designed for use with strength training bands that I think would be great for hammock use - mine are an older version of the ones shown below, just made of webbing and stitched up quadruple thickness on one end with a nice heavy-duty flexible plastic tube reinforcement in the middle (make your own!):

Just tried the inward-opening door at one end. Held my weight, but top 1/5th of the door definitely bent in towards the room.
What I want to know is why very house/apartment doesn't come with hammock hanging facilities as standard...
My bedroom is 11 feet 4 inches at the widest point. I made a stand, now into the third week of full time hanging, and it works very well.
The stand is made from some old 1 1/2 inch pipe (boiler pipe, not galvanized; my Dad used to work in a power station). The length of the top pipe is 10 foot 6 inches (1 piece of pipe) with allowance for the 90 degree els; the uprights are a bit over 5 feet (2 of these) and the feet are 24 inches each. (4 of these). Since I already had the pipe, the cost was less than $50. It would probably cost about a $100 more if you have to buy the pipe.
Think yard sale clothing rack and you get the idea.
We cut the pipe pieces to length, ground the ends smooth and even, then took them to a local plumbing store and had the ends threaded. At the same store, I bought two 90 degree els and 2 T's. I put it together in the bedroom (only knocked one hole in the wall). I hung my WB Traveler from it using the webbing suspension that came with my Blackbird. This suspension gives me a wider range of suspension length.
The Traveler hangs very well and the stand is very stable. Hopefully, it will last for a long time. It also takes up very little floor space. The cedar chest is pushed at one end and the dresser at the other end.
has anybody suggested a clothes type rack made out of 2 or 3 inch pvc, or one made out of 2 by 4's that fit the inside dimensions of the room. Then you could attach the eyebolt or wrap with tree straps and be able to monitor the hanging without damaging the walls.
Simple and safe way to hang indoors if your worried about a stud holding your weight.
Is to spread the load over 2 studs like this.
I made this in 5 minutes, and most people will have the tools and know how.
The rings are rated 1200 lbs each and bolted on with two 1/4 inch bolts backed with T-Nuts.
Then four 4 inch screws mounting it to side by side studs.
